Rat Mami is multidisciplinary artist and educator from Raleigh, North Carolina, USA. She received a B.F.A in Studio Art with a concentration in Ceramics from Appalachian State University. While in undergrad she also studied cultural anthropology and linguistics which continues to influence her professional and personal life. In 2023, shortly after college graduation, Rat moved to rural Spain where she worked as an English teacher for 2 years. During that time she also backpacked around the country and participated in work exchanges involving sustainable agriculture and hospitality.
Rat Mami currently lives in Southern Spain with her partner where she works in education as she develops her artistic and linguistic abilities. Her recent work focuses on experimentation with fibrous materials such as paper mache, origami, and textiles; she intends to improve her craftsmanship within this area of making, using mostly recycled or found materials. She also has begun to expand her creative world into the realm of performance. In the last year she began studying the art of Clown with Equilibrio Inestable which has greatly inspired a more playful and imaginative approach to making.
Rat Mami’s main sources of inspiration are nature, science, personal experiences, literature, dreams, myth, and spirituality.
